How To Layer Fashionably.

Here in the Philippines when the month of September comes in, it means that holidays are near. It also means that the temperature level decreases signifying the coming of colder days.

And for Fashionista like me (ehem!), it simply means “LAYERING”

Actually if you’ll be browsing down any major fashion websites this fall and winter, you'll notice a common trend -- practically everyone is layering.  Layering is a great way to mix your favorite pieces and wear something comfy and flexible, while breathing-out your sense of style.

There are many ways to layer clothing; but sad to say only few can make this look perfect. Layering can make your outfit either “different and personal or untidy and bulky.”

Color and fabric are some of the main things to consider when layering outfits. Don’t layers more than 3 unless the weather requires a more serious outer layer. You will just look bulky if you overdo it.
Layerings with neutral colors are very great. Do not wear bright and intense colors. Instead use brilliant colors as an accent. Wearing neutrals will give a harmonious look.
Your Designer 101 Rules in Layering:
§  Wear thin clothes first. - the closer to your skin, the thinner the material. Wear cotton shirts or blouses and top it over with rayon cardigans or sweater. Then wear a scarfs. Scarfs are an essential item when wanting to achieve the layered look! If you’re going for a sophisticated and professional look layer a cardigan over a fitted top.
§  Mix different fabrics and patterns – put a dress shirt under a leather jacket. Or wear plaid scarf over a plain cotton blouse. Remember, a layer is essentially any item that can be worn on its own and look great.
§  Take a look at yourself at the mirror
It’s a simple basic rule, you shouldn't wear anything that feels uncomfortable.  Unless you are going on the runway. Remember that there are exactly two looks for layered clothes: the right look and the lumpy mattress look. If you can’t tell the difference between the two, you better not continue reading. Be sure of the look. Layering can create a cluttered look. Wear less accessories.
§  Explore  - Search online, in fashion magazines, read blogs (e.g.:  yourdesigner101.blogspot.com ) and observe others for their layered look… but don’t copy their style.. It is still better to create your own distinct style.
