2011 TREND REPORT: IKAT PRINT

Ikat print is not actually a print. Traditionally,  It is the weaving of the thread into a pattern. This is more intricate to African print where in the pattern was printed , painted or stamped onto the fabric. Ikat print, however continuous to become a hot item this Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.

Ikat print is everywhere this season. It  is made of strong pattern in black and white mixed with darker prints, combined with  rich fall colors like browns, deep reds, and oranges.  Designers know that this print isn’t easy to pull off, so they made an exotic turn of Ikat print from dresses, to accessories like bag, shoes, etc.  Not only that, Ikat print now also favored to men’s wardrobe, like shirts, trousers and ties.

The traditional yet modern appeal of this print makes it a big hit this season.

How to wear it:

As Garment:
Ladies
-          Look for dresses with simple details. Tunics and Shift dress are quite safe.  
-          Keep the rest of your outfit simple and let your Ikat print dress be your signature.
-          You can wear a black blazer on top of your Ikat mini dress to subdued the bold print.
-          Make your bottom in monochromatic or in neutral shade. White fitted trouser is perfect.
-          Tucked in your loose-fitting neutral tank to your ikat skirt.

DRESS / BAG / SHOES / SKIRT


MENS:
-          A basic shirt dress for men is enough to stand out in the crowd. No too much details.
-          Ikat print cardigan is just the right optical statement to add to your wardrobe.


SCARF / SOCKS / TOP / CARDIGAN / SHIRT

As an Accessory
-          Keep your clothes in plain color if you will carry an Ikat printed bag.
-          Add natural accents like bangles made of wood or with beads made from woods. Avoid shiny metals accents, matte finished jewelries will make the look perfect.
-          For  your everyday office outfit, wear accessories in ikat print. This will add an exotic touch to your outfit without looking too much bohemian.
