In Fashion, Who Really Gets Ahead?

While I was browsing the net for possible job vacancies in the fashion industry, I was disturbed by this ad:

- Candidate must possess at least a High School Diploma, Vocational Diploma / Short -Course Certificate, - Bachelor's/College Degree, any field.
- Applicants must be willing to work in Quezon City or Alabang, Muntinlupa City..
- Only Straight Male or Female.
- Not more than 35 years of age.
- With Experience in fashion designing.
- Fresh graduates/Entry level applicants are encouraged to apply.
- Full-Time positions available.

What do you think in this ad that bothers me a lot? - They are hiring  “ONLY STRAIGHT MALE OR FEMALE”

This article is for all the company that discriminate “gay” people like me. There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of a fashion brand (or any company) based on sex or sexual orientation of their employee. I feel so discriminated by this ad. I’ve been in the industry for almost half a decade now and established a good name even though that I am gay. Well in fact with my experiences in the industry I can say that fashion is a gay man's profession and there is no particular STRAIGHT gene for creativity.

If you will just look at certain examples of people who have had a faster rise to stardom, the percentage of gay men is higher.  Which brought us to a point that many gay men are more talented than straight.  The clothes we wear, or  for many wish we could wear, are often the product of some of the worlds most famous GAY fashion designers.  We have Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana better known to the world simply as Dolce & Gabbana or D & G. Valentino is considered to be the greatest and most important designer from Rome in the post World War II world, and perhaps the greatest from Italy during that period. Marc Jacobs, holding his own named label Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Creative Director for Luis Vuitton, is one of the hottest names in fashion.

Discrimination has to be stop now! You know why? Because we see fuchsia, burdgundy, indigo and mauves differently.

I remember what my father told me when he saw me sketching a fancy dress “When you grow up, you can be whatever you want to be.”
