MENS STYLE: : Comfy + Fashionable = Perfect Driving Shoes!

Today's fashion tip is inspired by a reader’s question. James Philip Alonzo, a good friend of mine was curious as to whether it’s appropriate to wear loafers while driving and with what color of socks.

Well, we all know that choosing the proper shoes for driving play a BIG part in driving safety. Yet there are a lot of people who drive with thick-soled shoes, high heels or sandals or no shoes at all!

I can’t define which shoes is perfect for driving, (e.g. loafers), all I can say is, using footwear you are not comfortable to wear while driving may cause accidents on the road. And as far as I know, the great choice of footwear for driving must allow the foot to feel the pressure needed by the pedals to achieve the desired braking or acceleration.

However, below are the top three shoes for me that I absolutely love to use if I am going to drive (my dream mini cooper):

• BOAT SHOES - Boat shoes aren't the only way to relax your soles . For example: the Gommini shoes from Tod’s in soft, matte suede can be use in driving. It has a rubber-pebble bottom that can give you enough grip on the pedal to avoid slipping.  Not only it is fashionable it also project a wealthier image.

• LOAFERS – It is also perfect as driving shoes, it is equally comfortable with boat shoes. The rules for wearing loafers is to keep the whole look laid back (jeans, shorts), but not too laid – back (nothing baggy). If you are wearing shorts, don’t wear socks with loafers. But with jeans, wear dark colored socks. The Golden rule is DO NOT WEAR WHITE SOCKS!

•CHUCK TAYLOR SHOES – The wide upper sole and much narrower heel section lend themselves well to heel-toe downshifts and quick footwork. And I think that with this very comfortable shoe you can able to have a full brake pedal application without much effort. One of the benefits in wearing this is that it tends to stretched a bit but have settled nicely.  When buying a chucks, please note that the classic style of Chuck Taylor have the really flexible soles and that the high top have better ankle support.

Most importantly these three shoes are I think, comfortable enough for long driving.
